listen
the world is sick of love
it’s abundant on the carnival of streets
everybody says they love everybody
jesus loves you god loves you
salami and baloney sandwiches love you
amazon prime loves you
your facebook friends send hearts and kisses
your dog loves you
you even say you love yourself sometimes
but of compassion
tres peux
poquito
who feels the pain of others?
who rescues the drowning
from the currents of grief?
who cries for me?
for whom do I cry?
for whom do I give my blood?
pledge my freedom?
listen fully and deeply
to a gush of tears
the truest act of love

Cheerful
A bit of self-pity never comes amiss, does it?

Pretty good
In the first line, I would say, perhaps, that the world has forgotten love, instead of being sick of it.
Although being sick of it, from the point of media saturation, is something that I fully understand.
I love the last three lines. They speak a truth most of us would deny, as inundated as we are in the sorry excuse of what passes for love in our shallow society, as it uses emotional manipulation as marketing tools.
Good stuff man, good stuff.

Thanks Jim
You certainly got the gist. The poem was somewhat prompted by a line by Camus: live life to the point of tears
I’m thinking about the opening too...
Maybe the world is sick— from love, by love, with love...of love is the one that still feels right. Like we say “I’m sick OF this or that...
So it’s not that the world has forgotten love, more that this love has become cheap...at least when there is no compassion attached.
Thanks for your well considered comment

The world,
The world isn't sick of love, more I believe we're snowed under with love. A bit more tough love wouldn't go amiss, if it could get the people off there arses and onto the politicians case. Politicians are to busy electioneering to be doing a proper job, to busy wanting some of the love (or the love of votes) to be effective at the job. We all need affection and nice words said about us but we can live without it, it is not a staple need. Great thoughts well written. Regards Roscoe...
Roscoe Llane,

for the mask of disbelief that's left.
