After The Fourth
It's quiet now,
Warm and still,
The orange glow of streetlight
fogged by lingering firework smoke,
the smell of gunpowder and forest
mixed with fertile earth and night.
A small form humps
low across the road
as I slow down
to turn into my driveway;
A raccoon in search
of food and safety
when the sun comes up
hours from now.
The celebrations are all done
but for distant crackling
of die-hard celebrants
still setting off their fireworks;
the parades have all gone by,
the barbeques have cooled,
and children filled with food
lie sleeping
snug in bed
And as I linger on the steps
that lead up to my door
where moon-flowers bright and pale
climb up the gables
of my sleeping home
I have a sudden thought
for people in an ancient city
far across the curve of world,
people risen up against
a growing threat of
intolerance and limitation
and I wonder
as I look around
my world,
why should they
not share in this?

Hey Jayne
Good to be back, thanks.
Everyone is good, I'm better than I deserve to be! LOL.
Its funny that you envy the heat - give me winter any time; the cold and snow keep the rest of the rats indoors, and let me have some solitude outside!.
I'm back to stay this time, knock on wood (raps on head with knuckles). But I'll have to write some new material.
Most excellent to see you, Jayne.

As with Jayne it is great to see you here again hope your staying away was not too bad, and that the world has turned showing a better face to the thoughts of the universe.
We are still as mad as always, come walk with us again let us share the thoughts that only are heard in silent places, where the recesses of the mind will play, Yours Ian.T

Hello Ian,
Thank you for the welcome back.
I won't be leaving for quite so long again, mainly because I miss the madness.
;)
Besides, I never stopped walking with you, I was just made invisible by the gods - an unavoidable inconvenience for old pagans.
heehee.
Thanks again Ian,
Respectfully, Race
