Patagonian Wasteland
I pray some trans-human power
would bring reprieve from lashing winds,
before the deceptive pause gives way
to debris and suffocating sounds.
Now that our hearts beat in calm unison,
free from dry gales,
I yearn for more time close to your cool skin.
The onslaught is relentless,
obeying laws transforming all to dust.
The wind is death’s other face,
almost carnal, powered by lust,
scouring out living matter
from hollows in this bestial meeting place.
Myths and legends grow
on wastelands pecked to the bone.
Is the tail-end of our continent
furthest away from any listening god?
Pressed close to your body,
I look for meaning
higher than tumbleweed rolling
over bare-bellied steppes.
But the curtain of dust tightens
around my throat, inexorable,
a throttling fear
between my prayers and God’s ear.

Thanks so much, Jerry. Good
Thanks so much, Jerry. Good idea you had the vasectomy. I don't think it should be made mandatory, but greatly encouraged. My grandson and his girl have decided to, perhaps, adopt.
Trouble with Patagonia is that it's far from overcrowded. So it's lamentably devastated by huge companies (of all sorts) that leave all land a total desert. These powerful guys think that the steppes and deserts have no flora or fauna, so they think nothing of taking advantage of that idea. Along with climate change, it's a catastrophe. Our climate, where I live, is getting colder. Whereas in the irrigated valleys they already have dengue coz it's warmer. And so on...
I think the only solution is for all of us to hold these greedy, malignant people to account, shove them out of office and their corporations. See Michael Moore's firm on Utube, it's free.
The pandemic is doing its part now, but we're all affected. Tx so much for commenting. Take care.

Mother Nature...
has her ways of evening things out. Whenever an animal population gets too numerous for it's environment; it will decline naturally. We are just animals after all. Maybe we won't go extinct; but we will decline in a serious way. Corona virus is just one way of that happening. We are too populous and too close together. We fly all over the world and are exposed to all kinds of diseases. We have too many children and farm too much land, we don't take care of the lungs of the world,[our forests] and we destroy whatever we feel is of no immediate use to us; never understanding that it is all necessary. A good write that puts things in perspective. But we know that the rest of the world isn't listening. ~ Geezer.

Hi Gee, thanks for stopping
Hi Gee, thanks for stopping by with your always interesting comments. You're so right and I think humankind is the worst animal of all, barring natural catastrophes of huge proportions, such as a meteorite hitting us.
I think that "we the people" have to unite and hold the greedy and powerful to account. Watch Michael Moore's The Planet of the Humans" on Utube, it's free. We've been blinded by the tall stories about wind, solar and other powers. We just have to learn to live with less and, if possible, have fewer children. The poor must have the education to understand this. They breed a lot mainly because so many of their offspring die, due to bad sanitation and adequate hospitals.
Sadly, Argentina is alongside Brasil, where Bolsonaro is of the worst sort. Hope he goes to prison. He's already being accused of dishonesty, but I think that destroying the planet should be made a serious crime. Amazonia does not belong to Brasil, it's humankind's heritage. And so on.

You're so right, Melinda, the
You're so right, Melinda, the pandemic is wonderful for planet Earth. We deserve all this isolation, collectivelly, that is. Most of us are kind to our surroundings, but the rich and powerful are greedy and care about nothing. We the people should hold them to account. All people who commit crimes against Nature should be sent to prison for a long time, if not life.
Thank you for dropping by, keep safe.
